We are pleased to announce that Logic Technology will be heading to Chicago next month for the 2013 Internet Retailer Conference Exhibition. Internet Retailer Conference Exhibition (IRCE) is the premier event for the eCommerce industry and we are excited to be a part of the conference again. The event is hosted at the McCormick Place and there will be more than 9,500 attendees. Since 2001, the event has continued to grow and Internet Retailer pulls out all the bells and whistles to make sure the event is informative, memorable, and exciting. This year they have several great speakers lined up, including former Vice President Al Gore.

Internet Retailer has a fantastic event planned and we are looking forward to our 4th straight year exhibiting at the conference. At the show, we will be showcasing our platform, logicbroker , to the entire eCommerce community. Logicbroker is our cloud-based integration hub that enables the automated exchange of inventory, catalog, and order information by connecting your eCommerce platform like Magento, Nexternal, Yahoo! and trading partners to your ERP (such as MS Dynamics, Sage, and QuickBooks). If you are looking to learn more about enabling your ERP systems for EDI and drop ship automation, visit are booth and someone on our team will be able to help you.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone at the event and if you are planning on attending you can locate us at booth 1142. Please reach out to us if you are attending and follow us on twitter (@logicbroker) for more updates and blogs.

An EDI 832 is a catalog price file and is used to request or provide prices and product information of goods electronically. It replaces a paper catalog and includes:

Seller name and contact information

Terms of sale

Discount

Physical Details including packaging

Pricing information

EDI 832 Format

EDI 832s enable businesses to streamline the supply chain by eliminating the need to manually data enter information into different systems such as shopping carts or ERPs. The automation also keeps the cost of business down as a whole because it frees up resources and reduces human error.

How do I send/receive an EDI 832?

It is rather simple for a system to send/receive EDI 832s. For the most part, the transmitting is done through the Internet or Value Added Network (VAN). To keep EDI costs affordable, today most EDI transmission is done through the internet using AS2 or secure FTP- eliminating the need for an expensive VAN. The file is kept secure using encryption to keep the data safe.

Translating an EDI 832

Once an EDI 832 document has been received, it must be translated into a functional format for your system. The majority of organizations have their own standard set of definitions for EDI 832s so companies use a platform like logicbroker to configure and translate these different documents. Once the EDI 832 is translated, the catalog information can be synced to your internal systems such as an ERP or shopping cart – eliminating the need for manual data entry. Many retailers use logicbroker to automatically update product pricing and information from trading partners to their shopping cart –eliminating lost revenue due to inaccurate prices. Also, suppliers find it useful because they can quickly communicate pricing and product information to their trading partners- eliminating the need to send catalogs via emails, faxes, or mail. Typically, many organizations will send similar documents such as an EDI 846. (Product Inventory).

An EDI 846 is an electronic version of a paper inventory update. It is used by trading partners to communicate inventory levels and whether there is stock of inventory on hand to be sold electronically. An EDI 846 can be sent multiple times a day or a few times a week to trading partners. Typically an EDI 846 includes:

Inventory Amount

Committed Inventory

Backorder quantity

Inventory in transit

An EDI 855 is a Purchase Order Acknowledgement. It is sent after an EDI 850 (Purchase Order) is received to confirm goods are available to be sold. It replaces the need to call, fax, or email trading partners to confirm a purchase order was received and whether it will be fulfilled. An EDI 855 includes the following:

Order Accepted

Order Rejected

Order Variations

EDI 855 Format

EDI 855s enable businesses to streamline the supply chain by eliminating the need for phone calls, faxes or emails and manually re-key the information into different systems. The automation also keeps the cost of business down as a whole because it frees up resources and reduces human error.

How I send/receive EDI 855s?

It is fairly easy for a system to send/receive EDI 855s. For the most part, the transmitting is done through the Internet or Value Added Network (VAN). To keep EDI costs affordable, today most EDI transmission is done through the internet using AS2 (Applicability Statement 2) or secure FTP (File Transfer Protocol), eliminating the need for an expensive VAN. The file is kept secure using encryption to keep the data safe.

Once an EDI 855 document has been received, it must be translated into a functional format for your system. Once the EDI 855 is translated, the information can be synced to your internal system of record such as an ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) – eliminating the need for manual data entry. Once the information exists in your systems, you can quickly acknowledge the order. Retailers and Suppliers find EDI 855 useful because it gives order updates quickly and allows them to anticipate order variations. Typically, the next step is to send back similar documents such as an EDI 810 (Invoice) and an EDI 856(Advance Shipment Notice).

EDI 810 Format

What is an EDI 856?

An EDI 856 is commonly known as an Advance Shipment Notice or ASN. It is used to transmit shipping information for an order electronically with trading partners. An EDI 856 is sent after an order has been picked, packed, and shipped. It usually includes the following:

Tracking Numbers

Items and Quantities

Carrier Information

EDI 856 Format

EDI 856s enable businesses to streamline the supply chain by eliminating the need to manually data enter information into different systems such as shopping carts or ERPs(Enterprise Resource Planning). The automation also keeps the cost of business down as a whole because it frees up resources and reduces human error.

How do I send/receive an EDI 856?

It is quite simple for a system to send/receive EDI 856s. For the most part, the transmitting is done through the Internet or Value Added Network (VAN). To keep EDI costs affordable, today most EDI transmission is done through the internet using AS2 or secure FTP, eliminating the need for an expensive VAN. The file is kept secure using encryption to keep the data safe.

Depending on the trading partner’s labeling requirements, it may be necessary to generate UCC-128 barcode labels as part of the ASN. This enables the receiver of the ASN (and ultimately the shipment) to quickly and accurately receive the inventory with a barcode scanner.

Translating an EDI 856

Once an EDI 856 document has been received, it must be translated into a functional format for your system. The majority of organizations have their own standard set of definitions for EDI 856s so companies use a platform like logicbroker to configure and translate these different documents. Once the EDI 856 is translated, the shipping information can be synced to your internal system of record such as an ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning or shopping cart – eliminating the need for manual data entry. Now that you have the shipping information you can quickly track the shipment, which suppliers find useful because there retailers can easily anticipate incoming orders. Also, many times retailers find it useful to have a platform like logicbroker to pull the ASN (Advance Shipment Notice) from an internal system, like an ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning), to have the tracking information synced to a shopping cart – allowing your customer to quickly receive tracking information without having to manually re-key information. Typically, the next step is to send back similar documents such as an EDI 810 (Invoice).

What is an EDI 850?

An EDI 850 is an electronic document that trading partners use to order goods or services. It is very similar to a paper Purchase Order (PO) document. You can use an EDI 850 to communicate electronically with trading partner’s order information such as:

Cost

Number of Items Ordered

Payment Terms

Discounts

Shipping Information

EDI 850 Format

EDI 850s enable businesses to streamline the supply chain by eliminating the need to receive orders via fax or email and manually re-key the information into different systems. The automation also keeps the cost of business down as a whole because it frees up resources and reduces human error.

How do I send/receive an EDI 850?

It is fairly easy for a system to send/receive EDI 850s.

Translating the EDI 850

Once an EDI 850 document has been received, it must be translated into a functional format for your system. Many organizations have their own standard set of definitions for EDI 850s and companies use a platform like logicbroker to configure and translate these different documents. Once the EDI 850 is translated, the order information can be synced to your internal system of record such as an ERP – eliminating the need for manual data entry. Once the information exists in your systems, you can quickly process the order. Typically, the next step is to send back similar documents such as an EDI 855 (Purchase Order Acknowledgement) and an EDI 856 (Advance Shipment Notice).

Did you know that Microsoft acquired the Great Plains Software in 2001? Since, then now called Microsoft Dynamics GP, it has become the premier ERP system for many mid-level businesses. It allows organizations to have one central program to handle financials, order management, sales and much more. This flexibility has been the key driver for many mid-level businesses to turn to Microsoft Dynamics GP. With the latest MS Dynamics GP 2013 now businesses can even take advantage of the cloud-based solution for this powerful ERP.

As a central hub for your business process, Microsoft Dynamics GP is very efficient and effective. But, what if you rely on other systems in your supply chain to support your business? Well, we have found many companies are forced to manually upload data, from these systems, by re-keying the information into Microsoft Dynamics GP – a process that is time consuming and costly. Although inefficient, companies cannot abandon the process because it is important to their supply chain and it is critical the information in Microsoft Dynamics GP. Wouldn’t it be great if you could sync the information directly to Microsoft Dynamics GP?

Well, today many companies are turning to EDI to help solve this problem. EDI is short for electronic data interchange and it allows computer systems to exchange documents and information between each other. How can EDI help you? Well, if you are retailer using Microsoft GP it can eliminate the headache of manually uploading order information from shopping carts such as Magento, Volusion, Nexternal, or your custom built website and transmitting PO (Purchase Order 850) to your warehouse or suppliers. EDI opens up new opportunities including drop shipping and omni-channel retailing. By having this automated, it will allow you to process orders quicker and free up resources that were previously spending time fulfilling orders. For suppliers, it can allow you to directly connect with your trading partners to eliminate the head ache of receiving purchase orders via faxes, emails, or phone calls. This will allow you to automate the process of sending back any ASN (Advance Shipment Notice EDI 856), PO Ack (Purchase Order Acknowledgement, EDI 855) and Invoices (EDI 810).

It seems easy but if you want to leverage EDI to its fullest capabilities, you need a hub that can integrate with Microsoft Dynamics GP and all your internal systems, like logicbroker. As a Microsoft Gold Partner, we have experience in finding the right end-to-end EDI solution for Microsoft Dynamics GP and your supply chain.
Microsoft Dynamics Convergence in New Orleans is only a few days away. With it rapidly approaching, we at Logic Technology are happy to announce that we will be partnering with Projects with Purpose to make a charitable to donation to Fuel the Future during the show.

Fuel the Future seeks to alleviate chronic hunger among school age children in order to enhance academic capacity which is often hindered by food insecurity. Approximately, 30,000 New Orleans students go hungry on the weekend because they cannot rely on school provided meals. For the students participating in the program, they receive a backpack of food every Friday that school is in session – this allows them to eat for the entire weekend. The packs are organized and delivered by local volunteers. Logic Technology is look forward to opportunity to give back to the community the New Orleans Community that will be hosting everyone during the event.

Our goal is to fund enough food packs for one student for the entire year! Want to help us? All you have to do it use the hashtag #logicbrokergives on Twitter during Microsoft Dynamics Convergence. At the end of the event, we will count up all of the tweets that were sent and for every person that tweets using #logicbrokergives we will donate a $1 dollar until we reach our goal. We are really looking forward to having the entire eCommerce community help us. Please stop by our booth, 2457, in hall C for more information on EDI integration, logicbroker, and to see how you can help Fuel the Future during the show. Also, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter (@logicbroker) for more updates on Microsoft Dynamics Convergence and our work with Fuel the Future.
